Wildhoney

I've heard about Tiamat decades ago, so how come that I did not listen to their albums until now? I bet I was not aware about their profound sounds and feelings behind those sounds!

A Pocket Size Sun, from the album Wildhoney, made me think about a little bag with something white within it, so I checked out for its meaning. I was right. Actually the entire album seems to send the listener towards a psychedelic state. The opening track, that also gives the name to the album, sent me to Pink Floyd's Cirrus Minor.

I would like to dare you to listen to this album, Wildhoney, and share your thought! Well, you might take a flight in the clouds, so I'll have to wait for your to land prior to tell me your experience! Personally it took me a while (a couple of weeks to be more precise) to write these lines...

She started to sing a lullaby
Originated from ancient Senoi
In dreams realm can no one die
Sleep safe my little boy
Senoi Dream Theory is a set of claims about how people can learn to control their dreams to reduce fear and increase pleasure -- especially sexual pleasure.

Bad Company

Hearing about the Wrong Side of Heaven, a touching song of the ones from Five Finger Death Punch, I was curious about some other of their songs. So I came across Bad Company. Being a classic rock based listener, I knew about Bad Company's original. The 5FDP version is a very good one, so here I am posting it side by side with the original (actually one on top of the other).

Keep on rocking!

The Gloaming

I've notice the very same animation used in the videoclips of two great rock bands: Pink Floyd and Tool. The animation is called The Gloaming, made by Niko Nobrain, and the clips are Welcome to the Machine, and Right in Two, respectively.

Keep on rocking!

Opeth, King Crimson, and Anathema

Listening to the sounds of Damnation, Opeth's album released back in 2003, my mind was set on a certain kind of move, a move like gently sailing a boat on big, yet calm, ocean waves, a sonic move between two albums: King Crimson's In The Court of The Crimson King and Anathema's Alternative 4. And, of course, a pinch of Pink Floyd!

Of Breath And Bone

I was about to name this post or at least a part of it as "for tonight". After a second thought I said to myself, "Oh, no, not just for tonight, yet for any powerful night!" Since I've heard the first sounds of Be'lakor's songs, I simply can not skip it when I see its name on YouTube's Recommended list...

Now it is up to you to listen to their songs and albums, and to listen to them again; again and again...

Here are some of the lyrics picked up from the album Of Breath And Bone (2012).

Her finger to my lips,
I am stilled in an instant —
I sip, and am numbed
From here the path winds backwards
I swallow forgotten words
To gain what was lost
And lost what was gained
Until neither is real
Behind my head, her hands hold no weight
Ills that never truly mend
Breath which seldom draws in ease
Pulses often miss their step
Somatic ever in disease
Of sprawl and flame
From nothing it came
Seemingly
The gap between us tears apart
Impel our end
Layers surge and strip away
Cast into nought
Distance loses meaning
As the breath becomes the fire
Gone are fibres; gone are thoughts
...But vapours in the pyre
Yet as the sun began to sink
He seemed to sense, he seemed to think
That soon his brother might appear
From somewhere close, from somewhere near
Convinced this was his brother's fate,
Above his corpse, he sat... to wait

The dream and the waking
Ending together
Understanding then
It had not mattered, ever

Fifteen times the leaves had shorn,
Trod by boy and beast
Kith and kin to fare him well
The youngling parted east
The sixteenth leaves began to fall
Indifferent, they withstood
Now, a man with nothing left
He turned back for the woods
By Moon And Star

The End - of Part One

Sometimes music clips used in my blogs are removed on different grounds from the source (usually YouTube). Their absence makes my posts meaningless. Therefore I've decided to put an end to this blog. [Edit:] At least to the way it used to be conceived by now. It shall include photos from the concerts I attended or I shall attend from now on.

I am thinking about The Door's The End, yet I shall not embed it here due to the above mentioned reason.

Keep on rocking!

November Clouds and Venator

The pattern of the clouds was very unusual that November day, especially the one above the line of the horizon. The powerful contrast sent a sensation of a strong inner force ready to be unleashed! It only needed a sign... I dare to make an image-sound parallel between this photo and Be'lakor's song called Venator.

Here are a few more pics.

Heaven and Hell

Listening some of Black Sabbath's albums tonight, a couple of line have drawn my attention.

The ending is just a beginner
The closer you get to the meaning
The sooner you'll know that you're dreaming

The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams

It's Heaven and Hell

And now...

IT'S THE BEGINNING OF...

THE END

The Best I Can - Queensryche

Reading "an exercise of imagination" on "living life, step by step" about a single option left, this being "to be your best version of self, today", my mind went to Queensryche's Best I Can (album: Empire).

I won't be torn between
The man in the chair
And the man that's in my dream
I'm going to melt the two men into one

I won't let go, gotta make the grade I set
No, I won't let it go
To be the best man,
the best man that I can

Mitzi. Mitzi Dupree

Mitzi is the name of a friend's cat. Hearing this name I thought I should find out the meaning of Mitzi Dupree, one of the song from a famous classic rock band: Deep Purple! After searching the web for it, well, nothing special came out about it. So, all it's left to do is just to enjoy the song as it is, without thinking about some hidden meanings! And, by the way, "It has no connection with China!"

Well, if you are searching the web for "The House of Blue Lights" instead of "The House of Blue Light", you'll find quite a story, a scary tale!
Even today, though it has been many years since the “House” has been torn down, there is tremendous interest in it.

Creep

Many years passed since I heard for the first time Radiohead's Creep. Recently, while listening to some of Clint Mansell's original soundtracks, I've recognized the lyrics. Yes, they were the lyrics from Creep.

You're just like an angel
Your skin makes me cry
You float like a feather
In a beautiful world
. . .
She's running out again
She's running out
She's run run run run
Radiohead emerged from the shadow of Britpop with a sound that was moody, melodic and explosive, with roots planted firmly in both alternative culture and the art-rock legacy of such classic rockers as Pink Floyd.

Of Clint Mansell I've heard for the first time after watching The Fountain, directed by Darren Aronofsky.
Mansell's version of Creep is performed along with Coco Sumner.

About the time Radiohead was launching Creep, I used to listen to a Serbian radio station from Novi Sad, called Radio Stotka (100.00 MHz FM). There was a show where two versions of the same song were presented side by side. The listeners of the station had the opportunity to cast their votes in order to decide which version is better: the original one, or the remake? Most of the times, the verdict was:
Uvek je bolje original!(The original is always better!)

I don't really perceive Mansell's version as a remake. It is rather the interpretation of Creep with another state of mind and heart, rather than a different pitch or style (like from pop to rock, or from folk to metal).

According to Thom Yorke, “Creep” tells the tale of an inebriated man who tries to get the attention of a woman to whom he is attracted by following her around. In the end, he lacks the self-confidence to face her and feels he subconsciously is her.

Is Mansell's your fave version, or do you think that the original beats its rival?

Either way, enjoy the song of your choice!

Shroud of False

We are just a moment in time,
A blink of an eye,
A dream for the blind,
Visions from a dying brain.
I hope you don't understand.

Song: Shroud of False
Band: Anathema
Album: alternative 4
The album title refers to the "Alternative 3" television programme and book. In interviews, the band mentioned they found "Alternative 3" too depressing so they came up with "Alternative 4", which is the album concept.

Soldier of Fortune

I've watched this clip of Soldier of Fortune a couple of years ago, and right now I am listening to it again. Back then I liked the nail clip idea, and now, after a few conversations on Ibanez guitars with a guitarist friend, I've noticed that the one in this clip is made by this manufacturer.

Music: Deep Purple
Album: Stormbringer (1974)
Song: Soldier of Fortune
Label: Warner Bros. Records
Lyrics:

I have often told you stories
About the way
I lived the life of a drifter
Waiting for the day
When I'd take your hand
And sing you songs
Then maybe you would say
Come lay with me love me
And I would surely stay

But I feel I'm growing older
And the songs that I have sung
Echo in the distance
Like the sound
Of a windmill goin' 'round
I guess I'll always be
A soldier of fortune

Many times I've been a traveller
I looked for something new
In days of old
When nights were cold
I wandered without you
But those days I thougt my eyes
Had seen you standing near
Though blindness is confusing
It shows that you're not here

Now I feel I'm growing older
And the songs that I have sung
Echo in the distance
Like the sound
Of a windmill goin' 'round
I guess I'll always be
A soldier of fortune
Yes, I can hear the sound
Of a windmill goin' 'round
I guess I'll always be
A soldier of fortune
